Reason to walk ...

Since I've moved into my new home here in Lake Worth I have carved out a 2mi, 3.5mi, 4mi. and 8mi. walks which I was doing primarily on the weekends because of my job.

Now that I working from my virtual office in my home, I'm dedicating my commute time to walk time and have found a perfect 2 mi. walk to my local Publix and back. I actually walk the perimeter of the store and get a chance to see what's on sale etc.

Shoes

I have a pair of walking/running shoes that I not only love ... but seem addicted to! I've bought 2 other pair in the last 2-3 months, and neither are as comfortable for fitness walking. My favorite shoes are Addidas, and the ones that just don't make it are New Balance, and Avia.


What sould I be looking for in a good pair of walking shoes?

Anybody out there with any suggestions?

Last Sunday

With the weather overcast, and cool for South Florida, I decided to do a walk that I have been thinking about since I moved back to Lake Worth. Last Sunday I did a large loop, that is 6-7 miles, in a little over an hour and a half.

Felt great ... moving on doing a 12 miler soon!

My Walks

Established 2 great walks in Palm Beach County ... one is a 3 miler that loops around Lyons Road, Hypoluxo, RT 441, and Savannah Estates. The other is a 5 mile out and back from my house down Lyons Road to Lantana.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons offers these suggestions:

* Swing your arms as you walk.
* Walk with your head up, and make sure your back is straight.
* Keep your abdomen flat.
* Point your toes straight ahead.
* Walk with a long, easy stride that doesn't strain you.

Sunday ... Nov 16

Great walking time in South Florida ... dry, and temp under 60 degrees, with a fairly sharp wind ... actually makes walking in the full sun possible ... did 3 miles today from home to the clubhouse in Verona lakes. This is a great walk since there is a slight hill over the Valencia Shores road whihc give the walk just an edge, especially if you kick up the pace on the uphill!

Really craving a big old breakfast of eggs, bacon, and home fries ... however will do some Fiber One (bran flakes and raisins) with some fat free yogurt, and perhaps a bananna!

Yikes ... I'm really getting into this!

Good news for Ed ...

Last month I discovered that my cholesterol was off the chart, and have been dieting, eating healthy, and taking Lipitor ... well 7 weeks later I've lost 13lbs, and my total cholesterol is down 50% with great LDL and HDL numbers.

Oatmeal rules!

My new walk ...

This is my new walk from my new home to where I used to live in Venetian Isles, Boynton Beach! Great walk with a nice little hill (there are few hills in FL!) to boost the heart rate!
